Dallas Striant Attorney

Striant is low testosterone (low-T) drug manufactured by Auxilium that is applied to the gums to increase testosterone levels in men older than 18 who present with low to no testosterone. Striant is a United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved drug and is available with a prescription from a licensed physician.

As with other low-T drugs, there are numerous side effects, many of which are relatively mild. Auxilium reports contraindications as well as warnings for adverse reactions and potential complications on its packaging and website information.

Also, recent studies suggest a higher risk for cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke for low-T drug users.

It is important for all men using Striant to be aware of the potential for serious health risks or death, both those listed on your prescription package inserts and those not listed. Speak with a Striant attorney in Dallas if you were harmed and need to file a claim.

The FDA Is Reviewing Possible Links to Cardiovascular Risk

The studies that found a possible link between a heart attack, stroke or death, and low-T drugs were published in 2013 in the Journal of the American Medical Association and in 2014 in the journal PLOS One. The former found a higher risk of heart attack, stroke, and death among veterans who underwent testosterone therapy. The latter found a higher risk of heart attack among men 65 and older within 90 days of beginning testosterone therapy.

The FDA has not released conclusive guidance on the low-T drug link to increased risk for heart attack and stroke to date, but it is an ongoing review at this time. Considerations include whether to require additional labeling that warns of increased cardiovascular risk on Striant and another low-T drug packaging.

However, in the meantime, the FDA has urged prescribing doctors to evaluate whether the suspected risks of Striant and other similar drugs outweigh the potential benefits. In addition, all users of Striant should make a similar evaluation based on what’s currently known about the drug and its possible complications.

If you currently use Striant for low testosterone therapy and you have suffered from cardiovascular episodes such as a heart attack or stroke, you should be aware that there could be a potential link between the two. If your heart attack or stroke were the result of using Striant, you could be entitled to compensation for damages with which a Striant lawyer in Dallas can help.
